The Center for Tamil Natural Language Processing Research aims to advance the development of computational linguistics, artificial intelligence, and language technologies for Tamil. Through research, resource development, and collaborative innovation, the Center seeks to build the foundational infrastructure required for Tamil text and speech processing, knowledge engineering, and AI-driven language applications.
Our vision is to prepare Tamil for the next generation of technological advancements by creating sustainable and open research ecosystems that support the preservation, accessibility, and analysis of Tamil knowledge. As part of this mission, the Center is undertaking the development of the Noolaham AI Ecosystem, including large-scale corpus creation, NLP enrichment, ontology and knowledge graph development, foundation models, speech technologies, and AI-powered knowledge access tools. We also work on projects from the center’s research themes in the Research Road Map.
To achieve these goals, the Center intends to collaborate with academic institutions, researchers, and students through mentorship, fellowship, scholarship, and internship programs, fostering a vibrant scholarly community dedicated to the advancement of Tamil language technologies and digital heritage.
